Quote1
Oh, Mary Alice, what did you do?
Quote2

Paul Young (formerly Todd Forrest) is Mary Alice's widower.

After his wife's death, his life spiraled out of control. The perfect suburban world that the two of them had killed to create came tumbling down. When he discovered that Martha Huber was to blame, he decided to take justice into his own hands by strangling her. Things went from bad to worse for Paul. Soon the whole neighborhood turned against him, including his son. And, when Mrs. Huber's sister, Felicia Tilman, framed Paul for her own death to avenge her sister, Paul went from Fairview Country Club to Fairview Penitentiary.

Almost ten years later, he returned to Wisteria Lane with both a new wife and a devious plan in tow. Eventually, Paul admitted to the murder of Mrs. Huber and soon found himself back in prison to atone for his crime. And still today, he laments over his wife's death, unable to get over it.

Biography[]

Early life[]

In 1990 Utah ("Love is in the Air"), Todd and his wife Angela Forrest illegally bought a baby from Deirdre Taylor, a heroin addict, because they were unable to conceive a child of their own.

MaryAlicePaulArriveWisteriaLane

Paul, Mary Alice and Zach move to Wisteria Lane.

After Deirdre overdosed once again, Todd and Angela renamed themselves Paul and Mary Alice Young and moved to Wisteria Lane with their baby to start a new life. The Young family's beautiful, happy life on Wisteria Lane was nearly destroyed when Deirdre arrived on their doorstep, seemingly sober, demanding to have her baby back. Paul attempts to hold Deirdre back, but she hits him on the head with a fire iron, and he falls down. As Deirdre made her way to the staircase, Mary Alice stabbed her and killed her. Mary Alice and Paul chopped up her body, placing it in to their child's toy trunk, and buried it under their pool, which was scheduled to be filled with concrete the next day.

Years later, the Young family's neighbor, Martha Huber, learned of their secret from her sister, Felicia, who had worked with Angela back at Dorothy Drake Rehabilitation Center in Utah. With this knowledge and in financial trouble, Martha began to blackmail Mary Alice. In desperation, Mary Alice committed suicide. ("Pilot"/"One Wonderful Day")

Paul Young: the seemingly perfect neighbor...

Quote1
I don't care what her reasons were. Maybe she was depressed, maybe she was bored. It doesn't matter. She abandoned her husband and her son. And I'll never forgive her.
Quote2

Mary Alice, prompted by a mysterious blackmail note, kills herself after what seemed like a perfectly normal day. At the wake at the Young's house, Paul and his son Zach receive a basket of baked goods from Bree Van de Kamp. It is hinted that something is under the pool, and later confirmed when Zach wakes up in the middle of the night to the sound of a pickaxe, and he sees his father breaking into the pool's concrete base. ("Pilot")

The item Paul dug up from under the pool was an old toy chest with dancing teddy bears and balloons on it, which he moves to the garage. Susan comes to talk with him whilst he is wrapping it up and loading it into the trunk of his car, and Paul tells her that he is angry at Mary Alice for abandoning him and his son, and that he will never forgive her for that. Paul later dumps the chest into the river, but the chest re-emerges to the surface out of his view. ("Ah, But Underneath")

Zach starts to believe that Paul didn't care about Mary Alice, as he had not yet put out an obituary notice in the paper; Zach tells Paul that when he dies, he'll do the same to him. Zach finds the gun that his mother used to kill herself with and confronts Paul as to why he kept it. Paul asks Zach if he has taken his medication and the doorbell rings. Zach greets Bree who invites them to the dinner party she is holding in his mothers honour, Paul then appears at the door to tell her that they shall not be attending. Zach slips the gun to his father. The next day, Paul sees a report on the news about the toy chest he dumped in the lake, Zach sees it and becomes suspicious, Paul sticks a "for sale" sign in front of the house that night. ("Pretty Little Picture")

The ladies listen to a tape Bree snatched from her marriage counselor's office, in which Mary Alice reveals that her real name is "Angela". The girls discuss sharing the blackmail note with Paul and Gabrielle comments on how creepy he is. Later, when they give him the note, Paul breaks down and leaves in a hurry. Some time later, Paul comes up to Lynette and Gabrielle and explains to them that Mary Alice had problems and she often left little notes to herself. The one they shared with him reminded him of how complicated it was living with someone with psychological issues. The ladies don't buy his excuse. Paul meets with Mr. Shaw, and asks that he track down the person who sent his wife the note. ("Who's That Woman?")

Paul is angry at Zach, as he is arrested for breaking into Bree's house and decorating it. Luckily for them, Bree doesn't press charges. He and Zach are then arguing in their house, and a punch is heard followed by a fall. Bree knocks on the door and Zach answers it. Paul is sitting on the floor with a bloody nose, having just been punched by Zach. ("Come in, Stranger")

Paul sends Zach to a mental institution. Julie breaks in to talk to him, and he tells her about a mysterious "Dana." Paul holds a garage sale and one of the things amidst the items is a baby blanket with the name "Dana" embroidered upon it. ("Running to Stand Still")

Edie Britt does a realtor walkthrough at the Young house, prepping for a sale, and Paul notices she left behind her files... complete with a stationary matching the one Mary Alice's blackmail note was written in. He confers with Mr. Shaw, saying he is torn on what to do, and Mr. Shaw gives him the options: for five grand she's hurt... for ten grand she's gone. Paul chooses the latter option. Later that night, Mr. Shaw meets Edie at the Saddle Ranch, a cowboy bar, and strikes up a conversation. ("Anything You Can Do")

Mr. Shaw, pretending to be a fellow real estate developer, lures Edie out into the middle of nowhere under the premise that he has a new project that may be of interest to her. As he goes to his trunk to presumably grab a gun, Edie reveals that the purple stationary she uses is actually something she stole from her housemate: Martha Huber, unintentionally saving her own life. Mr. Shaw tells this to Paul, who then goes to Mrs. Huber's house later that night, and insisting that he help her carry her groceries inside. Inside, they talk and she confesses to sending the blackmail note to Mary Alice and does not seem to feel any remorse for what she caused. Out of anger, Paul hits her on the head with a blender and strangles her to death.("Guilty")

Paul buries Martha's body in the woods along with the blender he used to strike her. He returns to Wisteria Lane and starts to wash the blood from his clothes. Zach escapes from the institution and Paul confronts Julie about it, as she has been sending letters to him whilst he was there. She denies knowing where Zach is, though Zach is actually staying in her room. ("Suspicious Minds")

Zach continues to stay with Julie, while Edie starts a search for Martha Huber, since she hadn't returned home. Zach is found by Susan and Mike, and Paul tells him to suppress his troubling memories and he re-imposes his enigmatic domination. ('Come Back to Me")

When Susan catches Zach kissing Julie, she immediately alerts Paul of the situation and demands that he do something about it. Paul tells her it is irrelevant, as he is selling the house, much to the dismay of Zach. Later, at the dance which he and Susan are chaperoning, Paul is asked by her about Dana, he tells her that Zach accidentally killed his baby sister, this is not true. He later tells Zach the truth about Dana and Zach uses this to blackmail his father into staying on the Lane so that he can be with Julie. ("Your Fault")

PaulYoung crime scene

Martha's body is found...

Felicia Tilman arrives on Wisteria Lane with the intent of finding out what happened to her sister, Martha. At Paul's house she sees a photograph of Mary Alice stuck on his fridge. Felicia recognizes her as Angela, but Paul assures her that the woman in the photograph is Mary Alice, and he doesn't know someone named Angela. When Paul watches an old video of Mary Alice, he sees that Felicia is at her party, since they both used to work at Dorothy Drake Rehabilitation Center. Paul becomes worried that Felicia will figure out his lies, so he plants some of Martha's jewelry in Mike's garage to frame him. ("Love is in the Air") Mike is arrested after the girls tip off the police. However, Susan provides his alibi. Zach throws a pool party at Paul's house when he is not there. ("Impossible")

Felicia and Paul

Felicia and Paul talk.

Felicia denies that Mike had anything to do with Martha's murder, as it seems very implausible. However, Paul is very insistent, which makes Susan suspicious. Later, when drunk, Edie and Susan discuss Paul and decide that they want evidence that he killed Martha, so they break into his house and find a tape of Mary Alice back when she was Angela. When Paul comes home, they hide behind the sofa. Edie pops up and tells him that she is there because she likes him and she starts kissing him to distract him as Susan escapes, Paul is flattered and kisses Edie back. ("The Ladies Who Lunch")

The police come to Paul's house and question him about a toy chest that was purchased many years prior, as he is listed under the purchases. Zach lies to the police, saying their chest broke years ago when he stood on it as a child. Once the police are gone, Paul starts to tell Zach more of the truth. ("Children Will Listen")

Paul asks Edie why she really broke into his house, and she reveals that it was Susan's idea. He meets with Susan and lies to her again by telling her that Mary Alice changed her name because she got into a fight with the relative that she was named after, but Susan is doubtful. Paul is mad at Zach for continuing to stalk Julie and Susan tells him he is not to see her anymore, he is angry. Felicia flashes back to a conversation that she had with Martha who recognised a photo of Angela as her neighbor, Mary Alice, Felicia reveals that Angela went missing at the same time as the baby of a drug addict did, she recognises Zach to be this child. Zach sets Susan's kitchen on fire and Susan hires a personal investigator (Mr. Shaw) to look into the Youngs. ("Fear No More")

Shaw tells Paul that Susan hired him and Paul gives him all the lies that he told Susan in the past so that he can relay and confirm them, she then believes them when he does so, but is still suspicious of Paul. Paul drugs Zach and tells him that they are moving. Felicia finds Zach is unresponsive and brings him to her house. When Paul comes to pick him up, Felicia warns him to leave since she knows that he killed Martha. Felicia advises Paul to not put Zach through being a fugitive and that he is better off. Mike finds out that Paul bought the toy chest that contained Deidre's body. ("Sunday in the Park with George")

Paul goes on the run and leaves Zach a box of stuff to keep him comforted, Felicia gives them to him, he is enraged and storms off. In the baseball mitt that he left his son, Felicia finds a note from Paul saying that he didn't really leave Zach and would later meet him at the ball park at a certain meeting time. Felicia tells this to Mike who meets him there, knocks out Paul and drags him off. ("Goodbye for Now")

It is revealed that Mike has taken Paul hostage and takes him out into the desert to kill him via gun, they stop and Paul tells him all of the secrets regarding the Young family, Mike puts away the gun and leaves Paul in the desert to find his own way home. ("One Wonderful Day")

This frightens Bree because she has begun to suspect that Chuck may have sent the letter. ("Making the Connection")
